Support Sexual Assault Survivors: Clove Alliance Offering Crisis Intervention Training
and Volunteer Opportunities
Clove Alliance, the nonprofit dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual violence in the Kankakee region, is seeking compassionate community members to join its next 40-hour Sexual Violence Crisis Intervention Training from April 28 to May 21, 2025. Participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to support survivors, advocate for change, and become volunteers.
The training, held at Clove Alliance’s main office at 1440 West Court Street in Kankakee, is led by experienced staff and subject matter experts from the community. Attendees will gain a deep understanding of the complexities of sexual violence and learn how to:
● Respond to survivors with sensitivity and trauma-informed support.
● Recognize factors influencing different forms of sexual violence, including culture and systems.
● Understand the medical and legal rights of survivors.
● Use survivor-centered advocacy practices.
Sexual violence is common and people from a wide range of professional backgrounds can benefi t from this training. Upon completion, participants can also volunteer in several meaningful roles. Crisis Hotline Advocates provide 24/7 phone support and meet survivors at local hospitals when they seek emergency care, while other volunteers fi nd fulfillment assisting with community outreach events, fundraising efforts, and office admin.
Sammy Burton, a dedicated Clove Alliance volunteer, shared her experience: “Being a Clove volunteer and participating in the volunteer training program has been a great experience! I…was looking to get involved in some way that was meaningful with everything going on in the world today. I chose Clove because of their values and the ability to connect with and support survivors in their most vulnerable state.”
Upon completion, trainees receive a certifi cate in Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention from the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault. Qualified professionals may also earn 35 CEUs/CPDUs in partnership with Kankakee Community College for a $300 fee.
The upcoming session runs from April 28 to May 21, 2025, with classes held:
● Mondays & Wednesdays: 6:00 – 8:30 PM
● Saturdays, May 3 & May 17: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
