How to Host a Successful Ribbon Cutting
Ribbon Cuttings are a great way to celebrate an important occasion at your business! Whether you are celebrating a grand opening, your anniversary, moving to a new location or joining the Kankakee County Chamber, we would love to help make your event special!
Follow are some key elements to consider in order to make your event successful and impactful for both you and your guests. Don't forget, the Kankakee County Chamber staff is here to help every step of the way!
-
Planning and Organization
- Set Goals: Define the purpose of your event—whether it’s to generate buzz, build relationships, or celebrate a significant milestone.
- Choose the Right Date and Time: The Kankakee County Chamber holds ribbon cuttings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. We will work with you to select the best date and time for your event. We will select a date at least one month out to ensure enough time to successfully promote the event.
- Create an Agenda: We’ll work with you to outline the event flow, including welcome remarks, speeches, introductions, the ribbon-cutting moment, networking opportunities, and any planned tours.
-
Invite Guests
- Invitation: The Chamber will create a Ribbon Cutting graphic that you can use to promote your event. Feel free to use this graphic or create youor own invitation.
- Use Chamber Connections: The Chamber will personally invite members of our Board of Directors, Ambassadors and Public Officials. We will also promote the event in our weekly newsletters, social media and on our online event calendar.
- Invite Your World: Reach out to your friends, family, key vendors, suppliers, and social media followers to join in the celebration.
- Send Timely Invitations: Ensure your personal invites are sent well in advance using a mix of email, social media, and traditional mail. Follow up with reminders as the event approaches.
-
Be Prepared
- Provide Refreshments: While not required, consider providing a small snack and drink for attendees
- Assign Roles and Responsibilities: While the Kankakee County Chamber will handle most of the event duties, it is always a good idea to have members of your staff present as well. Consider assigning roles such as greeting guests, giving tours, or assisting with refreshments.
- Prepare Speeches: Hosts are welcome to provide remarks before the ribbon is cut. Keep speeches brief and engaging.
- Provide Materials: A Ribbon Cutting is a great opportunity to let the community know more about your business or organization. Have flyers, brochures, and swag items available for guests.
-
Event Execution
- Add Personal Touches: Personalize the event with small branded giveaways, or special offers to encourage future business. Consider collecting business cards or contact information for a prize drawing, which also allows for follow-up communication.
- Networking: The first 30 minutes - hour is a great time for guests to network, have a snack, take a tour and talk to staff.
- Remarks and Ribbon Cutting: We will set a specific time for remarks and Ribbon Cutting ceremony. At this time, Chamber staff will gather all attendees and give a few remarks, followed by Public Officials (if in attendence). The host is then welcome to give a short speech. We will then gather to take a posed photo with the Ribbon, followed by the Ribbon Cutting!
- Follow Up: The Chamber staff will take photos of the event, but we welcome you to do so as well. After the event, don't forget to share your photos on social media (be sure to tag us!) and your website. Thank your guests for coming via social media, emails, and in-person.
